During paving, contractors use our knowledge of materials and paving to optimize phasing and sequencing while matching the field crew’s abilities. We prevent non-compliance events such as grinding, repair, or replacement. We troubleshoot problems and help contractors during challenging conditions. We do Value Engineering.

We are a world leader in pavement surface engineering and testing for safety and performance, including surface texture, smoothness, and noise.

Proper management can dramatically reduce capital expenditures on pavement infrastructure. We have delivered pavement management systems to local and state agencies, and we currently manage over 2,000 miles of pavement for our clients.

We use many types of non-destructive test equipment to evaluate pavements, including Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD), Rolling Dynamic Deflectometer (RDD), Ground-penetrating radar (GPR), Circular Track Meter (CTM), DFT, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP), Pulse Velocity (PV), and many others. With an accurate evaluation, we help owners strategize their expenditures to balance cost and pavement performance.

Transtec has taught non-destructive evaluation (NDE) to dozens of state highway agencies and the Federal Highway Administration. We have delivered NDE services to clients worldwide.

Performance-related specifications and performance-based specifications require expertise in specification development and cooperation from industry stakeholders. We have delivered specification development to many state highway agencies and to the Federal Highway Administration.

When a pavement asset becomes the center of an investigation with the potential to become a legal issue, the reputation and track record of the expert opinion is paramount. We perform forensics work on a limited basis, and we have an exceptional win rate.

During construction, Quality Assurance (QA) ensures the owner receives the desired final product. Our QA services enable us to work closely with the owner and the contractor to verify excellent final deliverables.

The Specialized Wisdom And Technology (SWAT) team provides comprehensive paving operation evaluations to identify opportunities for improving pavement smoothness. Transtec offers independent, objective evaluation of materials, equipment, construction operations, and measurement techniques.
