Pavement Surface Characteristics Testing | Norman, Oklahoma

Transtec conducted pavement surface characteristics testing of an experimental section of highway in Norman, Oklahoma where the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) had installed 23 different types of surface treatments on both asphalt and concrete pavement.

Testing included friction testing using the Dynamic Friction Tester; texture testing using the Circular Track Meter; 3D texture profiling using RoboTex, Transtec’s robotic laser texture profiler; and tire-pavement noise testing using the On-Board Sound Intensity (OBSI) technique.

Transtec conducted testing once per year over a three-year period to monitor changes in surface characteristics over time for each of the surface treatments. The results from this testing provided ODOT with valuable information on the friction, texture, and noise performance of surface treatment types commonly used in the state to aid in the decision-making process for treatment selection.
